Frequently asked questions
How to draw a ride, file it in a trip, share the plan, and export the track.
Do I need an account?
You need an account to draw routes and keep them. A shared link opens without signing in. Saving that plan into your own library is the step that asks you to sign in.
What is free, and what is Pro?
A free account can plan on the map: up to 5 routes, 1 trip, and 10 waypoints on any route. Pro is $5 a month. It removes the route and trip caps, raises the waypoint limit, and adds GPX import, GPX export, and share links. The pricing page lists what each plan includes. Signed in, open Upgrade in the header, or go to Billing.
How do I start a route?
Sign in and open Plan a ride. In Library, choose New route and give it a name. The map opens empty. Search for the start, or click the map and add the dropped point as a stop.
How do I add a place?
Use the search box and pick a result, or click the map. That drops a preview, and you choose stop or via. Right-click the map to see the coordinates and add a stop or via directly. Drag a pin to move it.
What is the difference between a stop and a via?
A stop is a place you mean to be: the start, a gas stop, lunch, the end of the day. A via only pulls the line through a road and does not show up as its own destination. The waypoint menu can switch a point between stop and via.
How do I reorder, rename, or remove a waypoint?
In the waypoint list, drag the grip to change order. Open the waypoint menu to rename a point, delete it, or switch it between stop and via. Undo point takes back the last point you added. Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) takes back the last change on the map.
What do one-way, round-trip, and there-and-back mean?
One-way ends at the last stop. Round-trip rides back to the start on its own line, so the loop can use different roads. There-and-back retraces the same pavement home. Change it with Route type. The line updates after you have at least two points.
What is the difference between Fastest and Twisty?
Fastest is the least travel time. Twisty prefers winding roads even when a straighter road would be quicker. Under each waypoint, Fastest and Twisty apply to the stretch that leaves that point. All fastest and All twisty set every segment to the same choice.
Can part of the route be twisty and the rest fastest?
Yes. Under each waypoint, the Fastest and Twisty buttons apply only to the stretch that leaves that point. All fastest and All twisty set every segment back to the same choice.
How do I avoid highways, tolls, ferries, or unpaved roads?
Open Avoid and check Highways, Tolls, Ferries, or Unpaved roads. The count on the button shows how many are on. Those choices apply to the whole route. Unpaved roads means gravel, dirt, and other surfaces tagged as unpaved.
What is a trip, and when should I make one?
A route is one line. A trip holds several routes in order, which is the right shape for a weekend or a multi-day ride. From Library, choose New trip, then add routes inside it. A standalone route can be added to a trip later from Add to a trip, or you can start a new trip that already includes it.
What is a point of interest?
On a trip, a point of interest is a saved place you can drop into later routes. Save one from a waypoint’s menu, from a search result, or by right-clicking the map. It stays with the trip, not with a standalone route. Add it to the route you are editing from the list, or click its marker on the map.
How do folders work?
Library folders sort routes and trips on the shelf. Inside a trip, folders group that trip’s routes so a long itinerary stays readable. Folders are optional. Deleting a trip keeps its routes; deleting a route removes that route.
How do I share a route or a trip?
Sharing is part of Pro. Open Share and create a link. The link is copied for you. Anyone with it can open the map and the plan while your subscription is active. Save to library, on that page, copies it into an account. Stop sharing from the same menu when the link should die.
How do I get the ride onto a GPS?
Export GPX is part of Pro. It downloads a file your unit can follow. On a trip you can export the route you are editing, the entire trip as one file, or every route as its own GPX file. Import GPX, also part of Pro, brings in a track you already have and turns it into a route you can edit.
How do I switch between miles and kilometers?
Use the mi / km control in the header. Distance, duration displays, and climb follow that choice, and the app remembers it.
How do I reverse a route?
On a one-way route, Reverse in the route menu flips the waypoint order so the ride runs the other way. You need at least two points. Duplicate copies the route if you want to keep the original and edit a second version.
Can I change the map?
The map control switches among Outdoors, Light, Dark, and Terrain. Satellite is there too, and it shows when Stadia Maps includes imagery on the current plan. The choice stays on this browser.
